We've been married for over 30 years and love to tell our amazing story in the form of a message titled "Hedges Around our Hearts." When we speak at couples' events, our message is always filled with practical ways to prevent small problems from becoming big ones. Sometimes, we forget that we are supposed to be friends with our mate so we offer simple steps to help you to fall deeply "in like" with each other!

Our message begins with the story of the death and resurrection of our marriage (in 1980) then we offer six Biblical principles about protecting marriages from external temptations and internal discontent. Our message is also about forgiveness and the possibility of new beginnings for all marriages. We give God the glory for healing our marriage, knowing that He is able to mend broken hearts.

Proverbs 4:23 is our key verse, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do."

Ron called in and got right through to Dennis. Ron told Dennis that he did not leave me, and we rebuilt our marriage,

THE 700 Club comes to our house!

MARRIAGE IS A PICNIC IN THE PARK

We had such fun at Calvary Chapel Beachside's Couples Night Out. The couples' leaders, Dan and Jan, provided a lovely picnic meal. Then each couple was encouraged to find a secluded spot to dine and discuss some of the questions from our book (Avoiding the Greener Grass Syndrome).

We all came back to hear the beautiful worship music and then we spoke candidly about our disasterous marriage and the Lord's healing power. We discussed the six HEDGES that protect our relationships and gave the Biblical references for each. After we spoke, Pastor Mike Harris gave a call for prayer and many couples responded.

It was a wonderful night, rich in God's beauty, through nature and His word.

Couples' Ministry

We just returned from a fun trip to Temecula, Ca where we spoke to the couples’ group at Calvary Chapel Bible Fellowship. Pastor Clark Van Wick and his lovely wife Sally were warm and welcoming and so were the other couples. We spoke on the topic of guarding our hearts and planting HEDGES of protection around our marriage.

We told the story of our marriage’s death and resurrection and then gave practical, Biblical ways to protect our hearts from frustrations and temptations. They were a perfect audience because they laughed at our funny stories and cried at the “heavy” ones. In February, we flew to Toronto to appear on this national Canadian TV show.

Our segment was about 20 minutes long and it went by very fast. Ron started to cry when he talked about God's mercy and forgiveness and I started to cry when I talked about my father. But it was not a sad show, we laughed too and talked openly about how awful our marriage was and how good it is now.

We took a side trip to Niagara Falls and it was COLD, but beautiful!

EV Free Fullerton--Couples in Recovery

We often speak to married or engaged couples, most of whom have not had affairs, but this week was different.

On Wednesday, we talked to a group of couples at EV Free Church, who've all had affairs.
The class is taught by Dave Carder, the author of TORN ASUNDER, and he asked us to share our testimony.

These wounded people are just beginning to rebuild their marriages and it was a privilege for us to encourage them. We told them the short version of our story and tried to give them hope for their own futures. Some of them were nodding, some were crying, and one man had his back toward us, with his arms folded, facing the door. I don't think he wanted to hear our message. That's the hard thing about speaking to people: we can't make them listen, we can't make them change. If they don't want their marriage to work, it won't. There has to be an internal decision--a desire--a commitment to stay. Without that, as soon as it gets difficult (and it will) they give up, walk away.

We will continue to pray for them and hope that our story gave them the encouragement they needed. We hope they begin to see the healing that can be theirs --if they choose it.
